Palmer's PUP copies Libs policies

Post by Rorschach » Wed Jul 03, 2013 10:27 pm

Apparently 17 pages of a 22 page lib policy document has found it's way onto the PUP website.

looks a bit light on here... maybe they've gone away to have a bit of a think?

So far I'm thinking PUP will do really quite badly at the next election... whenever it is.
Clive Palmer faces fresh objections to party name

Mining billionaire Clive Palmer's federal electoral campaign is facing a new setback based on his party's name.

The little-known, South Australian-based The United Party has lodged a formal objection to registration of the Palmer United Party with the Australian Electoral Commission, claiming confusion among voters.

If the objection is not resolved by the time writs are issued for the looming federal election, the Palmer United Party candidates won't be labelled as party members on ballots.

Registered in 2010, the United Party ran candidates in the 2010 South Australian election.

In his letter to the commission, United Party president Darian Hiles said his party's email and web address had been mistaken for Palmer party's and that voters:

* Had interpreted his party's polices as those of the Palmer United Party

* Had joined the Palmer party believing it was the South Australian party

* Had wanted to stand as candidates but had contacted the wrong party

"We do not want to be confused with the Palmer United Party as our policies are quite different and in in many respects (are) in conflict."

Mr Hiles told Fairfax Media that he viewed the Palmer party as primarily mining-focused whereas government should "balance all the needs of society".

In May, Mr Palmer was forced to change the name of his political party from the United Australia Party less than three weeks after it was formed.

A group of Brisbanites had already applied to register the Uniting Australia Party, and Australia electoral rules say a new party can be knocked back if it is able to be mistaken for a recognised political party.

Federal MP Bob Katter faced similar problems when he registered the name of Katter's Australian Party.

It seems to me Palmer and his party members just aren't that bright.

The word 'united' in any party name is an oxymoron.
