I almost felt bad after I read Nefs response, almost... 8-)

Gillard has attempted to use her fathers death to gain public sympathy at a time when emotions are powerful.

She could have gone about it more subtly, ie, extended her thoughts and best wishes to family's who have lost a loved one this year, without mentioning her father...this is, without making it all about her.

I mean, who hasn't lost a loved one this and is not thinking about them this Xmas?

We all have, and she knows this, this is why she said it, she knew it would strike a chord.:roll

But we don't all use our grief to our political/career/financial advantage. It's just hollow, sorry.

Nef, there are plenty of people feeling a sense of loss this Xmas, many have lost their jobs.

Now, will she extend her condolences to these people also?

Or will we have to wait for her to lose hers before she gives this any more thought.

:roll
I have no idea what Gillard was on about. I don't take any notice of what she says anyhow.

Did she mention the young Aussie men who lost their lives in Afghanistan this year? If not, why not? As far as I am concerned, they should all be home.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, as such, just that what you posted was in "poor taste", in my OPINION.

How was Baby's First Christmas? ;)

Gillard is so self centred, there are so many people contending with loss this Xmas, and in so many ways.

As you say, our troops are but one example... job losses are another.

She mentioned nothing about them... preferring to personify her condolences, make it all about her, then pitched it in a manner whereby she knew she'd strike a chord, one she knew would tug at the heart strings of just about every Australian.

She probably hoped the opposition would remark ... that way she could argue how heartless they all were picking on a poor grieving woman this Xmas, her first Xmas without dad.

One problem, her father was a man, and given she's quite the misandrist, I doubt the relationship between father and daughter would have been what she would have us believe it was.

Just my opinion.

Anyone who could sit through that bushpigs nasal twang, condescending speech patterns and slow nodding accentuations deserves a medal.

Helen Keller would find it difficult

Monk thinks I am wonderful due to my original post on this matter. For a dude who states, categorically, that he will never, ever return here, he does an awful lot of peeping. Maybe we should rename him Peeping Tom? :rofl
