Conspiracy Theories...

Post by Rorschach » Thu May 03, 2018 8:06 pm

Since this stuff has cropped up here...
Much third-party evidence for the landings exists, and detailed rebuttals to the hoax claims have been made.[1] Since the late 2000s, high-definition photos taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) of the Apollo landing sites have captured the lander modules and the tracks left by the astronauts.[2][3] In 2012, images were released showing five of the six Apollo missions' American flags erected on the Moon still standing; the exception is that of Apollo 11, which has lain on the lunar surface since being accidentally blown over by the takeoff rocket's exhaust.[4][5]

Even the Mythbusters have busted the Conspiracy theories over this issue...

Phil Plait successfully brings a NASA supporting voice to this story, explaining how the evidence against moon landings is at best, fantasy and misunderstanding. A more cynical view might be to suggest it’s a deliberate manipulation created to maintain an anti-scientific narrative to foster ignorance, mistrust and uphold a larger political agenda. Do a little search for “Phil Plait moon landing” and you’ll see him present even-handed science over any one of the arguments. In fact, if you buy into that whole “evidence” idea, he appears to successfully tear apart the conspiracy arguments.

‘If you think the moon landing was fake, you need a new brain’: Professor Brian Cox and Buzz Aldrin slam Twitter conspiracy theorists who doubt the Apollo 11 mission

Monday marked the 46th anniversary of the moon landing
Apollo 11 pilot Buzz Aldrin tweeted photos and his memories from that day
But conspiracy theorist claimed the photos and footage was fake
To which Professor Brian Cox replied calling them 'n*b ends' and Aldrin asked why Russia hadn’t exposed them if it was a fake

That time when Buzz Aldrin punches moon landing denier Bart Sibrel

Buzz Aldrin, who was the second man to step on the Moon behind Neil Armstrong, was not the first one to be harassed by Sibrel, who also ambushed other Apollo astronauts over the years, demanding that they swear on the Bible that they walked on the Moon while he would film them. But this time, things ended up badly for him.

It was September 2002, and Buzz Aldrin, accompanied by his stepdaughter, was arriving at a hotel in Beverley Hills where he was about to give an interview for a Japanese educational program, when Bart Sibrel showed up outside the hotel.

There is a short video on which you can clearly see that it didn’t take Sibrel long before he started his usual routine of harassing Apollo crew members, asking Aldrin to swear on the Bible. His demand appears far from polite and as you can hear in the video, he starts calling Aldrin a coward and a liar and accuses him of getting money for something he claims Aldrin didn’t do. The 72-year-old Aldrin responded by hitting Sibrel in the face.

The incident was investigated by the police after the conspiracy theorist filed a suit, but charges were dropped after witnesses told the police that Sibrel provoked Aldrin by aggressively poking him with a Bible.

Read another story from us: The computer which landed Apollo 11 on the Moon was about as powerful as a contemporary pocket calculator

Buzz Aldrin, who spent nearly 300 hours in space, is one of the most popular astronauts in history. Prior to becoming the second man to walk on the Moon, Aldrin served in the U.S. military as a fighter pilot and completed 66 F-86 combat missions during the Korean War.

As for Bart Sibrel, he needs to work much harder to prove that the moon landing was a hoax, especially since NASA released thousands of photos from the Apollo moon mission. If it didn’t achieve anything else, harassing Aldrin might have helped him see some of the stars supposedly missing in the photos. :rofl

LOL go Buzz!!

The US beat the Russians to the moon, which really miffed the Soviets. If the moon landing were fake wouldn't the Russians AND the Chinese be all over it like a donkey on a waffle? Seriously you think they wouldn't be screaming fake fake fake?

The Van Allen Belt... (actually there are several)

WIKI
Implications for space travel
Comparison of geostationary, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Compass (MEO), International Space Station, Hubble Space Telescope and Iridium constellation orbits, with the Van Allen radiation belts and the Earth to scale.[a] The Moon's orbit is around 9 times larger than geostationary orbit. (In the SVG file, hover over an orbit or its label to highlight it; click to load its article.)

Spacecraft travelling beyond low Earth orbit enter the zone of radiation of the Van Allen belts. Beyond the belts, they face additional hazards from cosmic rays and solar particle events. A region between the inner and outer Van Allen belts lies at two to four Earth radii and is sometimes referred to as the "safe zone".[28][29]

Solar cells, integrated circuits, and sensors can be damaged by radiation. Geomagnetic storms occasionally damage electronic components on spacecraft. Miniaturization and digitization of electronics and logic circuits have made satellites more vulnerable to radiation, as the total electric charge in these circuits is now small enough so as to be comparable with the charge of incoming ions. Electronics on satellites must be hardened against radiation to operate reliably. The Hubble Space Telescope, among other satellites, often has its sensors turned off when passing through regions of intense radiation.[30] A satellite shielded by 3 mm of aluminium in an elliptic orbit (200 by 20,000 miles (320 by 32,190 km)) passing the radiation belts will receive about 2,500 rem (25 Sv) per year (for comparison, a full-body dose of 5 Sv is deadly). Almost all radiation will be received while passing the inner belt.[31]

The Apollo missions marked the first event where humans traveled through the Van Allen belts, which was one of several radiation hazards known by mission planners.[32] The astronauts had low exposure in the Van Allen belts due to the short period of time spent flying through them. Apollo flight trajectories bypassed the inner belts completely, and only passed through the thinner areas of the outer belts.[25][33]

Astronauts' overall exposure was actually dominated by solar particles once outside Earth's magnetic field. The total radiation received by the astronauts varied from mission to mission but was measured to be between 0.16 and 1.14 rads (1.6 and 11.4 mGy), much less than the standard of 5 rem (50 mSv) per year set by the United States Atomic Energy Commission for people who work with radioactivity.[32]

Oh, that Van Allen Belt - online crackpots love to use Earth's belt of radiation to bolster their Moon landing conspiracies, suggesting it could be too strong for an astronaut to travel through (not true). But the truth is, scientists do think about the Van Allen Belt and its mysteries. They have launched probes to study the region since they weren't sure where some of that radiation came from.

We landed on the moon.

End of story.

Would have cost more to fake.
